We Want Equal Rights!
The Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Confederacy) had an enormous influence on the early suffragists, but this little-known fact has been written out of history. Historian Sally Roesch Wagner, PhD, rights this wrong in We Want Equal Rights! She explains to young readers how the early suffragists saw the equality and authority enjoyed by the women of the Six Nations Confederacy––freedoms they wanted for themselves but were denied. Look inside!
Awarded one of the first doctorates in the country for work in women’s studies (UC Santa Cruz) and a founder of one of the first college-level women’s studies programs in the United States (CSU Sacramento), Dr. Roesch Wagner has taught women’s studies courses for fifty years. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Syracuse University Renée Crown University Honors Program.
Listen to Sally speak with Her Story on the Rocks podcast hosts Allie and Kate about her journey in discovering the origins of suffragists movement, the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation and her books, Sisters in Spirit and We Want Equal Rights.
