New PathFinder title: The Land Grab

Another new series is added to our highly esteemed collection of Hi-Lo books for teens. The Legend of Big Heart series takes place during the early twentieth century amid the forced assimilation of Native tribes into mainstream America. These books feature the exciting adventures of young Alfred Swallow as he matures into a man and helps his family survive and prosper on the Lower Brule Lakota Reservation in South Dakota.

The first title, "The Land Grab" is available now for ordering. In 1929, on the Lower Brule Lakota Reservation in South Dakota, teenage Alfred Swallow overcomes numerous challenges as he helps his family hold on to their land. Using his wits and the lessons learned from his grandfather, he survives many harrowing circumstances. And, with the aid of family and friends, he stops a corrupt land agent determined to steal their farm.

Arriving next winter will be "The Roan Stallion," A Lakota teen and a roan stallion form a deep relationship after they both survive being sucked into a raging tornado. With the help of friends and family, the teen trains the stallion to lead a relay race team so he can try to win the prize money for a much-needed new tractor.

This is a work of historical fiction. All incidents, events, dialogue, names, and characters except for some well-known historical figures are products of the author’s imagination and are not to be construed as real.
